Welcome to the New Year!
On behalf of the Media Ecology Association, I’d like to warmly welcome you to 2025! As the new editor of In Medias Res, I am thrilled to bring you updates, reminders, and opportunities to engage with our community of media ecologists. With the new year brings the opportunity to renew your membership. Please watch your emails for your member renewal in early February. I’d also like to invite you to learn more about our new and standing board members and their work—you can find their details on the MEA Board page. 2025 Media Ecology Association Convention: Submission Deadline Approaching!
Our annual convention is quickly approaching, as is the deadline for submission. Proposals are due by February 1, 2025. Submissions are open for a variety of formats, including traditional papers, thematic panels, creative projects, roundtable discussions, and performance sessions.
Detailed guidelines for submissions and the submission form can be found at the Universidad Panamericana's submission website.
This year's convention offers the ability to connect with other's in a wonderful location--Mexico City! From June 5th to 8th, participants will enjoy an engaging theme. This year, the convention theme is "From Natural Selection to Artificial Intelligence: Balancing Opportunities, Ethics, and Challenges." In addition to an exciting locale and engaging theme, the keynote speakers are sure to impress.
This year’s keynote speakers promise to bring unique perspectives:

Lera Boroditsky — Renowned for her groundbreaking work in linguistics and cognitive science.

T.C. McLuhan — A celebrated filmmaker and author exploring cultural and ecological storytelling.

Deborah Tannen — A leading voice in gender and communication studies.

Student Travel Grants for Convention
The MEA is pleased to offer travel grants for undergraduate and graduate students attending the convention. Applications are due by February 15, 2025. For more details and to apply, please use this form.
Faculty and members are encouraged to share this opportunity with their students!
